The Pros and Cons of a Shaggy-Style Rug

September 24, 2010 Decor Tips, Rug Types

Shag rugs have been back in fashion for quite a while now; this is a rug with real advantages and disadvantages to consider. It depends on your space and living requirements as to whether a shaggy rug will suit your home. Here are some points you may want to consider when making your choice;

- The added volume of a shaggy rug is ideal for cold or hard spaces; if your home has hard wood or tiled floors, this type of floor covering will really adsorb the extra echo and create a more homely dynamic in the room. It is also a lovely warm texture in contrast to a cold floor.

- Shaggy rugs can be problematic in a dining area. Food and small pieces of rubbish will easily get lost and and accumulate in the weave, which can eventually become a magnet for bugs and mice if not properly cleaned.

- On the other hand, the TV and sitting area can be an ideal spot for the shaggy rug. In this way it becomes not just a statement of style, but also a bit of luxurious comfort to sink your feet into at the end of a long day.

Wherever you place your shaggy rug, be sure to care for it according to manufacturer instructions. Do this and a good quality shag rug will serve you well for many years.
