Floor Rugs vs. Carpet in the Home

Posted by admin Filed Under Decor Tips with No Comments

When you’re building or re-decorating your home, an important question will be whether to install wall-to-wall carpeting or use floor rugs to brighten and soften your living spaces.

Here at Floor Rugs Australia, of course we are inclined to recommend the latter, and here are a few good reasons why!

1. Floor rugs are cost effective. One good-quality, large rug can cover the majority of a living area for a fraction of the cost of carpet, which can cost hundreds or even thousands of dollars per square metre.

2. Floor rugs are versatile. You can change its’ position as you redecorate, move it to another area of the house entirely, or even replace it with a new design extremely easily. This is in contrast to carpet which can be a major undertaking to remove or replace.

3. As can be expected with heavy use and the passage of time, just like carpet, floor rugs can become dirty. The great news is that floor rugs are much easier to clean than carpet, being able to be taken away for professional attention or you can just scrub it down outside. If you have a genuinely unremovable stain, unlike on carpet, a floor rug can be repositioned so that the mark is no longer visible. Many mums and dads wish they were able to do this with their carpet!

Choose a rug. In many circumstances it will make more sense.

The Pros and Cons of a Shaggy-Style Rug

Posted by admin Filed Under Decor Tips, Rug Types with 1 Comment

Shag rugs have been back in fashion for quite a while now; this is a rug with real advantages and disadvantages to consider. It depends on your space and living requirements as to whether a shaggy rug will suit your home. Here are some points you may want to consider when making your choice;

- The added volume of a shaggy rug is ideal for cold or hard spaces; if your home has hard wood or tiled floors, this type of floor covering will really adsorb the extra echo and create a more homely dynamic in the room. It is also a lovely warm texture in contrast to a cold floor.

- Shaggy rugs can be problematic in a dining area. Food and small pieces of rubbish will easily get lost and and accumulate in the weave, which can eventually become a magnet for bugs and mice if not properly cleaned.

- On the other hand, the TV and sitting area can be an ideal spot for the shaggy rug. In this way it becomes not just a statement of style, but also a bit of luxurious comfort to sink your feet into at the end of a long day.

Wherever you place your shaggy rug, be sure to care for it according to manufacturer instructions. Do this and a good quality shag rug will serve you well for many years.

Hi there and thanks for visiting our Floor Rugs Australia company blog. Exciting things are happening for the store and our customers at the moment; if you check it out at http://www.floor-rugs.net.au/ you’ll see that there is a massive store-wide sale on and we are offering some great quality rugs at bargain prices. Our range is growing and there are a lot of new designs coming through, so whether you prefer plain, bright, modern or a graphic look there will be something of interest to you!

A challenge for many home decorators out there is finding a rug that will not only fill the required space, but also liven up a room without drowning all the other furnishings out. With this in mind, it is best to consider the range of colours that the room in question already displays. A good basic rule of thumb is this; if your furniture is coloured or you have a lot of bright decorative pieces (like vases or wall art), consider going for neutral tones in your floor rug. If not, a lively graphic or block colour design may be for you. You don’t want to go down the road of too many loud, clashing colours. That being said, it’s amazing what a creative individual can make work in the right setting- more on this in posts to come!
